PGT Construction in Tiburon, CA

PGT Construction in Tiburon, CA | Toolbox Contractors

We provide independent PGT window and door service across Tiburon, from fogged insulated glass on a 1980s Bel Aire rancher to corroded aluminum sliders on a Paradise Cay waterfront property. For larger projects, we also offer Tiburon Home Remodeling. The thing that makes our PGT work here different is simple: we know the peninsula. Salt air off Richardson Bay eats aluminum frames faster than any inland climate, and hillside design review means some replacements need town approval before a screw is turned. Our PGT familiarity runs deep. Norm Castellano learned the trade at San Bernardino Valley College and spent two decades framing, roofing, and rebuilding homes before he started running his own crew. He’s the contractor you call when a previous installer left a mess that needs untangling. We carry that same instinct into every PGT sales & service call in Tiburon. Whether you’re addressing a leak or planning a full impact-window upgrade, we’ll look at what you’ve actually got and tell you what it actually needs.

Why Tiburon Residents Choose Us for PGT Service

Most window contractors in this part of Marin County know flat lots and standard replacements, unlike our General Contractor in Tiburon. Tiburon is neither. When we arrive at a home off Lyford Drive or in the Uplands, we’re already thinking about slope drainage, wind exposure, salt corrosion patterns, and whether the permit office will want to weigh in. That local read changes what we recommend and how we sequence the work.

We’re an independent PGT specialist, not a factory-authorized dealer. That matters because we’re not tied to a sales quota or a single product line. If OEM PGT parts make sense, we source them. If a discontinued track or weatherstripping needs an aftermarket equivalent, we’ll tell you honestly and use a part that meets the original spec. Norm’s standard line on job sites applies here: “Tell me what you’ve got and I’ll tell you what it actually needs.” That’s how we approach every PGT repair or replacement in Tiburon.

Our team handles everything from single-sash glass replacement to full impact-window retrofits, and we work with the same accountability on a $400 roof repair or a $25,000 window package. One contractor, every phase.

Common PGT Construction Problems We Solve in Tiburon

• Corroded aluminum frames and hardware. Salt air off Richardson Bay attacks PGT WinGuard aluminum frames, especially on west- and south-facing exposures. We see pitting at weep holes, seized locking mechanisms, and crumbling track corners. We clean, treat, and replace hardware so the frame doesn’t need to come out.
• Fogged insulated glass units (IGUs). Marine fog and thermal cycling kill seals on older PGT units. The tell is condensation between panes that never clears. We order replacement IGUs matched to the original PGT spec and swap them without tearing out the frame.
• Water intrusion at sill and jamb joints. Wind-driven rain on hillside homes hits windows at angles flat-lot installers never plan for. Unsealed corners leak, staining drywall and rotting sills. We pull the trim, reseal properly, and add flashing where drainage was never right.
• Slider roller and track wear. On steep lots, PGT sliding doors are often the primary deck access. They get used hard. Worn rollers make the door drag, then the track warps, then water gets in. We replace rollers, refinish tracks, and adjust the door so it actually glides.
• Hardware fatigue on older PGT Custom Series. Homes in Old Tiburon and the Belvedere-Tiburon flats still have original Custom Series windows from decades back. Cranks strip, balances snap, locks don’t latch. We source OEM hardware where available and rebuild the operator rather than pushing a full replacement you don’t need.

PGT Service in Tiburon: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Here’s something most window companies won’t tell you about Tiburon: because hillside lots often carry view easements, a PGT replacement window that changes the opening size or alters visible glazing can trigger Town of Tiburon design review before a permit is issued. You’re not just swapping glass. You’re proposing a change to what your neighbor sees from across the canyon. We’ve navigated this enough times to spot it early and factor the review timeline into your schedule. On the hillside streets around Bel Aire and off Lyford Drive, we routinely deal with staging issues, view-corridor sensitivities, and town requirements that flat-lot replacements in Corte Madera or Mill Valley rarely hit. If you need Marin City PGT service, we handle those same hillside challenges there too. Understanding that process, and knowing when a like-for-like swap avoids it entirely, is the difference between a clean job and one that stalls for months.

PGT Models & Products We Service in Tiburon

We work on PGT WinGuard Aluminum, PGT WinGuard Vinyl, PGT Custom Series, and PGT EnergyVue lines. For active Tiburon jobs we keep common rollers, weatherstripping, and hardware sets on the truck, and we have a local glass supplier that cuts replacement IGUs fast, so most fogged-pane jobs don’t wait weeks. For older or discontinued PGT lines, we source OEM parts when PGT still stocks them. When they don’t, we match aftermarket equivalents against the original spec and install them the same way. Repair versus replace is always a straight conversation. We’ll price both and let the numbers decide.

FAQs – PGT Construction in Tiburon

Do I need Town of Tiburon design review to replace my PGT windows if they look the same?
If the replacement is like-for-like in size, glazing, and visible appearance, design review is typically not required. The trigger is when you change the opening size, alter glazing that’s visible to neighbors, or modify the exterior look. We’ll tell you during the estimate whether your job clears that bar or needs the town involved. Call (855) 382-3257 for a straight answer on your specific windows.

Why do my PGT windows fog up on the side facing the bay?
Marine fog and salt air cycling through hot afternoons stress the seal on older insulated glass units, and the bay-facing side takes the worst of it. Once the seal fails, moisture gets trapped between the panes. The fix is a replacement IGU matched to your PGT frame. Call (855) 382-3257 and we’ll measure it.

Can you repair corroded PGT sliding door tracks caused by salt air?
Yes. Tuburon’s salt exposure pits aluminum tracks and seizes rollers over time. In many cases we can clean and treat the corrosion, replace the rollers, and rebuild the track without pulling the frame. If the frame itself is too far gone at the corners, we’ll tell you and price a replacement. Call (855) 382-3257 for an exact quote.

My PGT windows are original to my 1980s Bel Aire home – should I repair or replace?
It depends on the failure. If it’s fogged glass, worn weatherstripping, or a bad crank, repair often makes sense and costs a fraction of replacement. If several units are failing, the frames show salt corrosion, and you want impact-rated glass for wildfire and storm protection, replacement becomes the better value. We’ll run both numbers for you. Call (855) 382-3257 and Norm will give you an honest read.

How does hillside construction affect PGT window installation in Tiburon?
Hillside lots mean sloped access, engineered staging, and wind loads that flat-lot installs don’t face. It also means the town may review any change that affects view corridors. We plan for all three before we start: structural anchoring, drainage at the sill, and the permit path. Call (855) 382-3257 and we’ll walk your site.
