Therma-Tru Construction in Rialto, CA | Toolbox Contractors
We provide independent Therma-Tru entry door retrofits, replacement slabs, and hardware service across Rialto’s 92376 and 92377 ZIP codes. The thing that separates our Therma-Tru work from anyone else’s is that we know the original rough openings in Rialto’s 1950s – 70s stucco-on-slab tract homes, and we plan every retrofit around what’s actually buried in that stucco. We’re not authorized by Therma-Tru and we’ll say so plainly, but we’ve cut back enough old stucco around enough original openings to know exactly what a Rialto door needs to seal through Cajon Pass wind. Call (855) 382-3257 and we’ll put eyes on yours.
Why Rialto Residents Choose Us for Therma-Tru Service
Therma-Tru doors are everywhere in Rialto now. Homeowners bought them for the insulation value and because the fiberglass skins hold up better than wood in triple-digit heat. What most of them didn’t get was a contractor who understood the house the door was going into. That’s where we come in.
Norm Castellano grew up in Muscoy, just up the 215, where we also offer Therma-Tru repair in Muscoy, and learned construction at San Bernardino Valley College before spending close to two decades pulling apart and rebuilding Inland Empire houses. He’s the guy who gets called when a previous contractor bolted a door in and walked away. We’ve installed, retrofitted and repaired Therma-Tru entry systems across Rialto for years, and we know how Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star slabs behave under Santa Ana wind loading and sun-baked stucco. We pull OEM sills, weatherstrip and hinges whenever the frame is sound. When it isn’t, we tell you before we cut anything.
One contractor. Every phase. That’s the whole point of Toolbox.

Common Therma-Tru Construction Problems We Solve in Rialto
- Wind-driven dust packing the weatherstrip and sill. Homes along Rialto’s northern edge near the foothills eat fine grit every time the Santa Anas kick up off the Cajon Pass. That dust packs into the adjustable sill channels and weatherstrip, and the door starts dragging or hanging on the latch side. We clean, reset and often replace OEM weatherstrip to get the seal back. There’s a reason the phrase “foothill dust” comes up on nearly every 92377 call we take.
- Sill and threshold rot where stucco flashing was never upgraded. Original 1950s through 1970s stucco-to-frame flashing is a coin flip at best. When winter storms off the mountains push water against the opening, that old flashing lets it behind the sill. Rotted sill, water into the subfloor, and a door that’ll never sit right until we cut the stucco back and re-flash properly.
- Sun-baked fiberglass and steel skins on south- and west-facing entries. Rialto summers sit in triple digits for weeks. South-facing entry doors take it worst: topcoat chalking, finish failure, hairline cracks around the lock bore and hinge mortises. Sometimes a new slab is the right call. Sometimes the existing slab is sound and it just needs refinished and rehung. We’ll tell you which is which.
- Hinge-side frame bow and sag from shifting rough openings. These old slab foundations move. When the rough opening shifts, the frame bows, the door goes out of square, and the multi-point hardware stops engaging on the top and bottom. Forcing it makes it worse. The fix is re-shimming and resetting the frame, not cranking the hinges.
- Multi-point lock hardware that won’t fully engage. Related to the frame bow above but worth its own line: Therma-Tru patio and sidelite systems with multi-point hardware won’t seal if the door is even slightly out of square. We square the opening first, then reset the lock points. Skipping step one means the brand-new hardware fails again in six months.
Therma-Tru Service in Rialto: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Rialto’s housing stock is overwhelmingly 1950s – 1970s single-story stucco-on-slab tract housing built for railroad and aerospace workers. That matters for Therma-Tru work in a very specific way: the original entry-door openings are nominal rough openings buried in old stucco, not modern framed openings with a clean nailing flange. So a Therma-Tru retrofit in Rialto almost always involves cutting back and re-flashing stucco rather than slipping a new unit into a square opening. Crews working Fontana Therma-Tru service or Eastvale’s newer tracts can pull the old door and drop the new one in. We can’t do that here, or at least we can’t do it honestly. That same stucco condition is why so many Rialto door leaks get blamed on the door when the real problem is thirty-year-old flashing behind it. We find it, we cut it out, we flash it properly, and then the door does its job.
Therma-Tru Models & Products We Service in Rialto
We service Therma-Tru Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star fiberglass entry doors, Classic-Craft American Style premium fiberglass doors, steel entry doors with Tru-Defense edge construction, and patio and sidelite systems with multi-point hardware. Our parts approach is straightforward: when the existing frame is square and sound, we order OEM Therma-Tru sills, weatherstrip, hinges, lock hardware and replacement slabs because OEM tolerances are what keep these doors sealing through wind season. When a part is discontinued, we spec a comparable aftermarket component and tell you exactly what it is and why. For most Rialto jobs we can source slab and hardware locally or within a day or two. If this connects to the broader Therma-Tru sales & service work we do, that’s the page for it.

Therma-Tru door work in Rialto often lands on a bigger scope than homeowners expect because the stucco cut and re-flash is part of the job, not a surprise change order. Here’s what related work typically runs in this market:
| Service | Typical Range |
|---|---|
| Impact Window Installation | $8,000 – $25,000 |
| Window Replacement | $4,500 – $15,000 |
| Roof Repair | $400 – $1,800 |
A door-only retrofit with a sound frame runs lower; a full unit replacement with stucco cut and re-flash runs higher. The free estimate gives you a written line-item quote before any cutting starts. Call (855) 382-3257 and we’ll come out, look at the opening, and tell you what it actually needs.

FAQs – Therma-Tru Construction in Rialto
Yes, but it’s not a drop-in. The original rough opening is almost always buried in old stucco with outdated flashing, so we cut back the stucco, inspect the rough framing, re-flash the opening, then set the new Therma-Tru unit and seal it properly. Skipping the stucco work is how Rialto door retrofits end up leaking. Call (855) 382-3257 and we’ll tell you exactly what your opening needs.
Wind-driven dust off the Cajon Pass packs into the weatherstrip and adjustable sill channels, and the door starts binding. The fix is pulling the weatherstrip, cleaning the sill tracks, and usually replacing with OEM weatherstrip so the door seats cleanly again. If it’s been binding long enough, the hinge side may also need reshimming. Call (855) 382-3257 for a free look.
If the fiberglass skin is chalking and the cracks are only around the lock bore and hinge area, the slab can often be refinished and rehung for less than half the cost of a new unit. If the skin itself has delaminated or the cracks run through the panel, a replacement slab is the honest call. We’ll show you before we recommend spending anything.
We do. Rialto’s Santa Ana wind exposure makes impact-rated windows a smart pairing with a new entry door, especially on the north and west faces of the house. We install PGT and CGI impact windows, and we can quote the window work at the same time as the door retrofit so you’re not scheduling two crews. Call (855) 382-3257 and we’ll price the full envelope.
No. We’re an independent door and construction contractor. We install, retrofit and repair Therma-Tru entry systems, and we source OEM and quality aftermarket components on your behalf, but we are not authorized, sponsored or endorsed by Therma-Tru. Being independent means we recommend the repair that’s right for your house, not the one that moves a manufacturer’s part number.
